Stephen
Ainsworth has extensive experience in Manufacturing Engineering in a
wide variety of different Industries, and is a
Commitee Member of the Association of Industrial Laser Users (AILU).
He Completed a 5 year Apprenticeship with
Jaguar Cars in 1977, and gained a BEng in Engineering at Coventry
University.
Stephen worked for Jaguar Cars as a
Project Engineer in Manufacturing Engineering until 1988, and was
primarily responsible for the facilities to manufacture the major
rotating parts for the Jaguar XK, V12 and AJ series of engines.
During this time he also gained experience of
working with Lasers, Gear Manufacture and the Pressing and Assembly of automotive
BIW components.
He then joined one of the leading Control
System houses as Project Manager, and in 1990 moved to be a Project
Manager at a leading Robotics Company.
In
1993, he formed SJ Ainsworth Consultancy Ltd, and has worked on a
variety of different Projects including Warehouse layout, Robot Cell
design and installation, the design and installation of Laser Cells for
Cutting, Welding, Measurement and Marking utilising both Nd-YAG and CO2
Lasers, the introduction of Just in Time assembly to a car seat
manufacturing facility, design and layout of a specialist sports car
body manufacturing facility, the facilities to manufacture an automatic
transmission for specialist European GT car, the reduction of press tool
change times in line with World Class practices, assessment and
improvement of Manufacturing processes, Cost and Waste reduction
programmes and a number of Risk Assessment and CE Marking related
assignments on Machine Tools and Process Plant.
Stephen has presented a number of papers
at Seminars organised both by the 'Make it with Lasers' campaign and
AILU.
